The Charlotte Hornets and Utah Jazz are two of the more entertaining teams in the NBA so far this season. They are the only two teams in the league averaging over 115 points per game for the season, and are numbers one and two in the league in offensive rating thus far. That will make their Charlotte Hornets vs. Utah Jazz tilt on Monday night more exciting than most games on the NBA schedule this season.
Both teams are able to hurt their opponents by scoring from multiple levels, which is what makes them so dangerous. They both have the ability to score at the rim, and from long range, the two most dangerous spots on the floor in today’s NBA. The team that can do the better job of stringing together a couple of stops should have a real chance to win this contest, as stops will be hard to come by on a consistent basis.
Charlotte Hornets – Problems On Defense
The Charlotte Hornets have lost three of their last four games on their recent road trip, including two straight losses against the Phoenix Suns and Portland Trail Blazers. Their only win on this road trip came against the San Antonio Spurs, who are a lower tier team in the league today despite the coaching of Gregg Popovich. But this road trip has showcased all of the same issues that have plagued the Charlotte Hornets all season long.
During this four-game stretch, the Hornets have allowed 120 or more points in three of the four games, which were the three games they lost to the Suns, Trail Blazers and Dallas Mavericks. Defense just isn’t something that the Hornets do particularly well on a regular basis, especially against upper echelon teams in the NBA. They will need to change that if they are going to avoid a fourth loss out of five games on this road swing.
Expected Line-Up: LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier, Gordon Hayward, Miles Bridges, Mason Plumlee

Utah Jazz – Outstanding On Offense
The Utah Jazz have also lost two straight games coming into this matchup with the Charlotte Hornets. They dropped back to back home games against the Washington Wizards and the San Antonio Spurs, and will look to erase their losing streak with a strong performance from the opening tip against Charlotte. But the Jazz have been dealing with some defensive issues of their own as of late that they will need to address against the explosive Hornets.
Utah gave up 128 points at home in their loss to the Spurs recently, and gave up 130 in a recent home win against the Boston Celtics. While the Jazz have a far better defensive rating than the Hornets this season, they are prone to their fair share of defensive lapses. They will need to avoid those in order to avoid another game that comes down to the wire with both teams scoring at will.
Expected Line-Up: Mike Conley, Donovan Mitchell, Bojan Bogdanovic, Royce O’Neale, Rudy Gobert
Expert Pick #1 – Over 235.5 @ -110
The first bet to place on this game is the over 235.5 at -110 odds. This number has moved up considerably from the opening line, but is still worth playing at this stage. Both of these teams are incredible at putting the ball in the basket, and there isn’t likely to be any resistance on either end as the Hornets’ porous defense will set the tone for the entirety of what should be an electrifying game.
Expert Pick #2 – Jazz Over 123.5 Points @ -115
Our second bet worth placing on this matchup is the Jazz over 123.5 points at -115 odds for the game. Utah has the top offensive rating in the NBA, and is facing the team with the worst defensive rating in the NBA. We have seen them score above this mark easily against much better defensive clubs, and there is no reason to believe that they can’t get up around 130 or more in this game.
Expert Pick #3 – Bojan Bogdanovic First Basket @ +700
The final bet to place on this contest is Bojan Bogdanovic to score the first basket of the game at +700 odds. Utah should be able to win the tip here, with Rudy Gobert taking on Mason Plumlee, who isn’t all that athletic for a big. With the Hornets’ defensive issues, look for the Jazz to try and start the game with a perimeter shot, which Bogdanovic is a prime candidate to take.
This game could end up being remembered as one of the most fun of the entire 2021-2022 NBA season. With the two best offenses in the NBA squaring off in Utah, expect plenty of points and for both teams to be extremely aggressive as they look to light up the scoreboard. Don’t be surprised to see both teams up around 130 when the final buzzer sounds.
