The Brooklyn Nets and Detroit Pistons combined for some compelling rivalry games many years ago, when the Nets played in New Jersey. In the 2000s, these teams were constant contenders in the Eastern Conference, making each of their matchups incredibly significant. And while this game won’t have as big an impact on the Eastern Conference title race, there is some interest to be generated from this Detroit Pistons vs. Brooklyn Nets matchup.
This season, the Nets are off to a slow start since the tip off of the 2021-2022 NBA season. Detroit hasn’t been lighting things up either, but will hope to perform better now that they have one of their key pieces back from injury. On Halloween night, this game could be a more interesting matchup than many are expecting.
Detroit Pistons – Playing A Back To Back
The schedule for the Detroit Pistons isn’t exactly working in their favor here, as they are playing the second night of a back to back stretch. Last night, the Pistons played at home against the Orlando Magic, with Detroit picking up their first win of the season. The win marked the first game of Cade Cunningham’s NBA career, with the Pistons winning in spite of a slow start to the career of the top overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft.
Cunningham scored just two points in his NBA debut against the Orlando Magic, making just one field goal in eight attempts. But the top overall pick did contribute in ways that went beyond simply scoring points, as he collected seven rebounds in his 19 minutes on the floor. The addition of another respectable rebounder in the Pistons lineup could really help them against a Nets team that is undersized.
Expected Line-Up: Killian Hayes, Cade Cunningham, Jerami Grant, Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart

Brooklyn Nets – Trying To Find Form
The story of this season for the Brooklyn Nets so far is that they are struggling to find their footing, winning just three of their first six games on the season. Brooklyn has alternated wins and losses across each of their first six games, and are coming off of a win at home over the Indiana Pacers on Friday night. Tonight, they will look to put together a more convincing performance against a Detroit team that is expected to go through more growing pains this season.
If the Nets are going to start winning games more authoritatively, they are going to need more from James Harden. Harden is clearly not in his peak physical condition, on top of him not getting the same amount of free throw attempts by seeking contact. The rule changes in the NBA this season have clearly impacted him and could be a problem going forward.
Expected Line-Up: James Harden, Bruce Brown, Joe Harris, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin
Expert Pick #1 – Pistons +12 @ -110
The Detroit Pistons are the inferior team in this matchup, but taking 12 points with the Pistons at -110 odds is the best bet to make for this game. Detroit plays hard, even if their level of talent isn’t the same as what the Nets have to offer. Detroit should at least be able to get the better of the Nets on the glass in this game, giving themselves chances to keep the margin of victory for Brooklyn respectable.
Expert Pick #2 – Nets Win By 6-10 @ +350
The best odds in terms of margin of victory for this game are for the Nets to win by 6-10 points. While the Nets should come out on top in this game, this contest is likely to be closer than anticipated thanks to the Nets’ lack of rebounding and lack of consistency among their players not named Kevin Durant at this point in time. Brooklyn will take this one by single digits, albeit the upper single digits.
Expert Pick #3 – Under 215 @ -110
The final bet to make on this matchup is the under 215 at -110 odds. Detroit is by no means a strong offensive club, as they play one of the slower paces in the NBA. Brooklyn has been struggling offensively themselves, and the combination of both of those things should result in the game going under the total when all is said and done.
While this game is anticipated to be the lopsided contest on the Sunday NBA slate, there is a lot that could make this one interesting. Expect the Pistons to come out and fight, while the Nets continue to work through their issues both on the floor and in their own minds. Cade Cunningham should be able to score more than the two points that he accounted for in his debut in the NBA last night. And Detroit will cover the double-digit spread, while the Nets will pick up the victory.
