New Orleans Saints will take on Green Bay Packers in the NFL 2021 opening week on Sunday afternoon. The home side wants to book a playoffs spot once again after a good campaign last time. The visitors hope to earn a Super Bowl ticket after failing to do so in the 2020 season.
New Orleans topped the NFC South with a 12-4 record last time and headed to the playoffs after winning twice in a row. They were better than the Bears in the first knockout round, but the Buccaneers stopped them on their way to Super Bowl. The Packers also had a very good campaign, and they were just one step away from the Super Bowl. After winning the NFC North with a 13-3 record, the Packers beat the Rams, but the Buccaneers also eliminated them in the semis.
New Orleans Saints – What they can do without Drew Breece?
The hosts were involved in just two preseason games, as their clash against the Cardinals was postponed. They had a 1-1 preseason record after losing to the Ravens and beating the Jaguars. New Orleans enter the new campaign without legendary Drew Breece, who retired at the end of the last season. Jameis Winston will replace him, who was the third option in 2020. That wasn’t the only change in the Saints’ roster, as they needed to keep the salary cap under control. However, the leading players stayed in the franchise, including Alvin Kamara and Cameron Jordan.
On the other hand, the Saints should find a way to handle Michael Thomas’ absence. The best NFL receiver will miss half of the season due to an injury. The Saints have been chasing Super Bowl, but they haven’t succeeded. Their roster might be weaker than the last season, but there are still many excellent players.
Expected Line-Up (Offense): Alvin Kamara, Marquez Callaway, Chris Hogan, Lil’Jordan Humphrey, Adam Trautman, Terron Armstead, Andrus Peat, Erik McCoy, Cesar Ruiz, Ryan Ramczyk
Expected Line-Up (Defense): Cameron Jordan, Christian Ringo, Malcolm Roach, Marcus Davenport, Kwon Alexander, Demario Davis, Kaden Elliss, Desmond Trufant, Malcolm Jenkins, Marcus Williams, Paulson Adebo
Quarter Back: Jameis Winston
Kicker: Deonte Harris

Green Bay Packers – Can they reach Super Bowl this time?
The Packers didn’t shine in the preseason, but they wanted to keep their starters clear from injuries. As a consequence, they lost all three games, as the Texans, the Bills, and the Jets were better. However, the away side is definitely among contenders for Super Bowl. After the uncertainty around Aaron Rodgers, an excellent quarterback stayed in the team. However, it might be his last season in Wisconsin if the Packers don’t win the Lombardi trophy in 2021. The Buccaneers stopped them on the way to Super Bowl last season, and if they fail again, this campaign might be the “last dance” for Rodgers and Davante Adams at the Packers.
Green Bay didn’t have many changes in the roster, and it is expected that they won’t have many troubles in NFC North. However, a lot of frustration got accumulated after the NFC Finals loss, and the road will likely lead them to face the Buccaneers again. David Bakhtiari is on the injury list, and he’ll certainly miss at least six matches at the start of the campaign.
Expected Line-Up (Offense): Aaron Jones, Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Allen Lazard, Robert Tonyan, Elgton Jenkins, Lucas Patrick, Josh Myers, Royce Newman, Billy Turner
Expected Line-Up (Defense): Dean Lowry, Kenny Clark, Kingsley Keke, Rashan Gary, De’Vondre Campbell, Krys Barnes, Jonathan Garvin, Jaire Alexander, Adrian Amos, Darnell Savage, Kevin King
Quarter Back: Aaron Rodgers
Kicker: Mason Crosby
Expert Pick #1 – Green Bay Packers -3.5 @-110
The Saints will rely on Jameis Winston this season, and he didn’t shine in his spell at Tampa Bay. Although the Packers are not in the circle of top favorites to win the Lombardi trophy, they should be able to see off the opponents in this game. I’m going to take the Packers covering the spread as the first pick.
Expert Pick #2 – Over 50 @-105
These two sides went Over seven times in their last eight meetings, and I expect to see the same scenario again. This bet provides a very good value, and the odds are pretty decent. On the other hand, the Saints went Over seven times in a row in Week 1, and this is going to be my second pick.
Expert Pick #3 – Packers to win ML @-175
If you search for lower odds, then backing the Packers at the moneyline market might be a sound call. They are going to show their strength in the season-opener and get back home with a win. I’ll take them to win as the third pick for this game.
