Washington Capitals will host Anaheim Ducks in Monday’s action of the NHL 2021-22 season. The home side is back on the winning track, and they want to build up on their latest performance. The visitors have been running hot and cold lately, and they look forward to stabilizing their game.
Washington stayed on the top of their division after the latest victory, and they search for another good display on the home ice. The hosts are on the right track to enter the post-season, and they want to stay there. On the other hand, Anaheim searches for the playoffs spot and sits in the top four. However, the away side needs to stabilize its form and perform more consistently.
Washington Capitals – Can they continue a good home form?
The Capitals bounced back after two straight defeats, beating the Blue Jackers 3-1 in the previous round. That victory keeps them on the top of the Metropolitan Division, with a 15-4-6 record. Washington has improved its home from lately, winning four times on the previous five occasions at Capital One Arena. Alex Ovechkin led the Capitals to the victory over Columbus, while they held the opponents to only 18 shots.
Ovechkin has been one of the most dominant players in the NHL with 39 points, including a team-high 20 goals. Evgeny Kuznetsov is the best assistant with 20, while he has contributed with 28 points. John Carlson and Tom Wilson have produced 23 points each, while Nick Jensen has the highest plus/minus score. Vitek Vanecek and Ilya Samsonov split time between the pipes, while the Capitals had more success with Samsonov on the goal. They went 10-1-1 with him as a goalie, while he has a .917 save percentage.
Expected Line-Up: Vitek Vanecek, Martin Fehervary, John Carlson, Tom Wilson, Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov

Anaheim Ducks – Can they stabilize their game?
The Ducks go to play away from home after two straight games on their ice. They head to this clash after losing to the Flames after the penalty shootout. Anaheim is currently 3rd in the Pacific Division with a 13-9-4 record, and a big fight for the playoffs spot is ahead of them. The Ducks haven’t been bad on the road so far, winning four times on ten occasions. John Gibson had a solid performance against Calgary in the last game, but his .917 save percentage wasn’t enough to win.
Troy Terry has been the most productive player in the Ducks’ offense with 25 points, while he’s also the best scorer with 15 goals. Ryan Getzlaf managed to set up 19 goals and contribute with a total of 20 points. Trevor Zegras, Sonny Milano, Kevin Shattenkirk, and Adam Henrique produced 16+ points each, while several other players chipped in with ten or more points. On the other hand, John Gibson has been the first-choice goaltender, allowing 2.68 goals per game with a .915 save percentage.
Expected Line-Up: John Gibson, Jamie Drysdale, Hampus Lindholm, Adam Henrique, Sam Steel, Troy Terry
Expert Pick #1 – Capitals to win (Inc. OT and Pen.) @-215
Washington’s form is on the rise, and they should continue with good displays in front of the home fans. Anaheim hasn’t been consistent lately, and they don’t look convincing to me. I’ll back the hosts to win this game as my first pick, although the odds are not too high.
Expert Pick #2 – Capitals -1.5 @+115
For those that want to go a bit riskier, backing the Capitals at the puck line market could be a wise choice. If the home side wins by at least two goals, you can count on the plus money. Washington is capable of beating the spread, and I’m taking them as my second bet.
Expert Pick #3 – Over 6 @+105
Both teams have been pretty efficient this season, producing more than three goals per game on average. Five of the Capitals’ last six home games went over the margin, same as Anaheim’s three outings from the previous four. I expect an efficient matchup with at least six goals in total.
