Washington Capitals will host the Boston Bruins in Monday’s action of the NHL 2021-22 season. The home side looks forward to getting back on the winning track after three straight defeats. The visitors have played very well lately, and they want to keep up where they left off.
Washington wants to keep fighting for the division’s top spot, but they need to break their poor steak. The hosts will search for a positive result on the home ice to remain comfortable in the playoffs zone. On the other hand, the away side enjoys a pretty good streak. A tough challenge is ahead of Boston, but they want to get back home with another win.
Washington Capitals – Can they bounce back with a win?
The Capitals have been struggling lately, as they go to this game after losing three times in a row. Nevertheless, that poor run hasn’t jeopardized their playoffs bid, as Washington sits in 3rd place in the Metropolitan Division with a 20-7-9 record. They return to the home ice after two straight outings, and in the latest one, they suffered a 3:2 penalty shootout defeat against Minnesota Wild. Although the Caps held the opponents to only 22 shots, they haven’t been clinical enough in the final third.
Alex Ovechkin still dominates Washington’s offensive charts with a total of 51 points. He’s the Caps’ top scorer with 24 goals while being the best assistant as well with 27. Evgeny Kuznetsov has contributed with 34 points, including 22 assists, while John Carlson has produced 32 points. Tom Wilson is the only player that reached the 20+ mark in the number of points, while three other skaters have chipped in with 17 points each. On the other hand, Ilya Samsonov has spent most of the time between the pipes, having a .903 save percentage. Vitek Vanecek also enjoys a good campaign, allowing 2.51 goals per game on 16 appearances, but he will be out for this encounter.
Expected Line-Up: Ilya Samsonov, Dmitry Orlov, John Carlson, Lars Eller, Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov

Thanks to four wins in the previous five rounds, the Bruins managed to squeeze into the top four in the Atlantic Division. They are sitting in 4th place with an 18-11-2 record, being two points ahead of the Red Wings and having five games in hand. Boston goes to this one after a valuable 5-2 victory against the Lightning on the road. Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak led the Bruins to success by scoring two goals each, while Linus Ullmark conceded just twice, having a .931 save percentage.
Marchand has been Boston’s most productive player so far, with 33 points, including a team-high 14 goals and 19 assists. Patrice Bergeron has contributed with 26 points, while David Pastrnak has 24 points. Charlie McAvoy and Taylor Hall managed to reach the 20-point mark, while Charlie Coyle is the remaining skater with a double-digit number of points. On the goal, Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark split the time between the pipes, allowing 2.58 goals per contest and having a .918 save percentage.

Expert Pick #1 – Capitals to win (Inc. OT and Pen.) @-120
Despite the hosts being on a losing streak, I’m going to back them as my first pick. They shouldn’t continue their losing streak, and I expect them to do much better in the offense. On the other hand, Boston has trouble playing at Capital One Arena, and I don’t see them winning here.
Expert Pick #2 – Over 5.5 @-115
Washington’s matches have been pretty efficient this season, and 12 of their last 18 clashes went over the margin. The Over cashed in four of the Bruins’ previous five games, and I expect a similar scenario in this encounter as well. Give me the Over as the second bet.
Expert Pick #3 – Capitals Over 2.5 @-160
For the third pick, I’m dipping into the team totals market, despite a bit cheaper odds. The Capitals failed to score at least three goals on the previous two occasions, but I don’t expect that to happen again. They have been confident at home, and I see them dictating the tempo of the game.
