Dana White’s Contender Series Season 5, Week 4 General Information:
- Date: Tuesday, September 22, 2021
- TV-Time: ESPN+, 1:00 a.m. ET
- Venue: UFC Apex facility
- Location: Las Vegas, Nevada
- Fights: 5 fights on the main card
- Main Event: Hashem Arkhaga vs. AJ Dobson
Expert Pick #1 – Dobson to Win @ –115
Hashem “Avaca” Arkhaga is an exciting prospect from Jordan who will be putting a 6-fight winning streak on the line as he enters the octagon at Dana White’s Contender Series against AJ Dobson, who’s on a 5-fight winning streak himself. Hashem has faced arguably tougher opponents in his career, but he had a 7-year layoff and has not beat anyone of great quality since his return. Thus, he would be coming into this fight a bit rusty, which would give Dobson a slight edge in sharpness and conditioning. A fight to be decided by the smallest of margins. Our first expert pick is an AJ Dobson win.
Records: Hashem Arkhaga [6-0-0] | AJ Dobson [5-0-0] Main Card – Welterweight(170lbs) – Approx. Start Time: 2:00 a.m. ET
Expert Pick #2 – Rlayang to Win @ –175
Steven “The Ninja ” Nguyen returns to the Contender Series for this year’s edition after missing out on a UFC contract when he lost painfully by TKO in the dying minutes of round 3, in the third season of the series. He is no stranger to this stage and has the obvious edge experience-wise. He has only lost once in his last six professional bouts. His opponent on the night is another bright prospect, Theo Rlayang. Rlayang is currently on a 5-fight winning streak, finishing four of them. He is also the more complete fighter of the two. One would expect Nguyen to have learned from his mistakes two years ago, but his opponent in this matchup presents a different type of problem. A Theo Rlayang win is our expert prediction for this one.
Records: Steven Nguyen[7-1-0] | Theo Rlayang [5-0-0] Main Card – Featherweight (145lbs) – Approx. Start Time: 1:30 a.m. ET
Expert Pick #3 –Martinez to win @-165
A matchup between impressive fighters at Lightweight. Jacob Rosales comes in with 3 wins in his last 5, while Victor Martinez comes in with a 5-fight win streak. Jacob “Little Badger” Rosales is perhaps the more well-rounded fighter, but Martinez has the advantage on the feet and is the more experienced fighter. Rosales has been the busier fighter of recent, as his last professional fight came in January of this year. Martinez might be dealing with a bit of rust. He last fought professionally in 2019. He still, however, possesses the edge skill-wise and should put them on display to secure the win on the night.
Records: Jacob Rosales [13-6-0]| Victor Martinez [8-2-0] Main Card – Lightweight (155lbs) – Approx. Start Time: 1:00 a.m. ET
