- Fights: 5 fights on the Main Card and 5 fights on the Preliminary Card
- Main Event: Simon Smotritsky vs. Mike Malott
Expert Pick #1 – Malott to win @ –115
Simon “The Assassin” Smotritsky is only 21 years old, but he looks like a certified mixed martial arts star in the making. The Israeli welterweight sensation has been fighting professionally since 2016, and he has not lost a single bout since he made his first appearance in the octagon (7-0). Standing in his way of making it to the big stages is Canadian striker Mike Malott, who is eight years older than his opponent.
Malott possesses the edge experience-wise, has finished all his wins, and has been training with the world-famous gym Team Alpha Male where he has honed his skills to become a very well-rounded mixed martial artist with good submission wrestling and solid striking.
Both fighters have previously fought in Bellator against top-class opposition. Smotritsky vs. Malott on paper presents a worthy bout for the main event, and it is a difficult one to call. The skill level of the Assassin is undeniable, but the Contender Series is a different stage entirely, and Malott seems the readier fighter of the two to be able to handle the occasion. Our experts pick a Malott win.
Records: Records: Simon Smotritsky 7-0-0 | Mike Malott 6-1-1 Main Card – Welterweight (170lbs) – Approx. Start Time: 9:00 p.m. ET
Expert Pick #2 – Garcia to [email protected] –175
After taking the fight on short notice, Joshua Weems comes into his matchup against Fernando Garcia with less preparation than he would have hoped for. He steps into the bout with an enviable record; he has seven wins in his last eight fights, with five of those wins coming by way of submission. On the other hand, Fernando “Fernie” Garcia has a 9-1 record, with three submission wins. He has fought more recently than his opponent (this year in March) and is currently on a 4-fight win streak.
“Wide Open” Weems is an excellent submission artist and is a very dangerous fighter should the fight go to the ground. Garcia has a good history of controlling fights, and with his superb cardio, he would look to keep Weems’ takedowns at bay. The contest will likely come down to preparation more than anything else, and in this, Fernando Garcia has the edge. Our tip is a win for Fernie on the night.
Records: Records: Joshua Weems 8-1-0 | Fernie Garcia 9-1-0 Main Card – Bantamweight (135lbs) – Approx. Start Time: 8:30p.m. ET
Expert Pick #3 – Expert Pick #3 – Valdez to Win @ –110
“Primetime” White is a finishing expert, and he enters this contest with an impressive 9-1 record. 8 of 9 of which are by KO/TKO. While his rival, Genaro Valdéz, is on a superb run of nine consecutive wins and is presently unbeaten in his professional career. Patrik White is predominantly a striker, but not a lot can be said about his takedown defence. Therfore would prefer to keep the fight on the feet considering he has a reach advantage in this matchup.
The advantage Genaro Valdéz brings into the fight is his superior wrestling and relentless pressure, never mind that he is also a well-accomplished striker himself. We can see the contest going one way, where Valdéz takes White to the ground and does his work from there. Our experts predict a win for the Mexican if all goes according to plan.
Records: Patrik White 9-1-0 | Genaro Valdéz 9-0-0 Lightweight (155lbs) – Approx. Start Time: 8:00 p.m. ET
