Expert Pick #1 – Vera to win @+125
Rob Font versus Marlon “Chito” Vera makes for an interesting main event matchup when the two top ten bantamweights clash. Font comes into this fight on the back of a loss to former champion Jose Aldo. Vera on the other hand has won two in his last two since he suffered defeat also at the hands of Jose Aldo. Marlon has improved a great deal since his last loss in the octagon and represents a different challenge to the higher ranked Rob Font.
Vera’s size, pressure and grappling are going to pose massive problems for Font, who to his credit, is also able to turn up the striking volume on his opponents. Chito’s cardio and leg kicks will play an important role in this fight, and how well Font can cope with the pressure over five rounds. Our experts predict a well fought out win for the slight underdog Marlon Vera on the night, as he extends his winning run to three and sets his sights on the division’s top fives.
Records: Rob Font 19-5-0 | Marlon Vera 20-7-1 Main Card – Bantamweight (135lbs) – Approx. Start Time: 1:00 a.m. ET
Expert Pick #2 – Fili to win @-333
Andre “Touchy” Fili goes up against Joanderson “Tubarão” Brito in what looks to be a favorable matchup for Fili on paper. Brito lost on his first outing in the UFC to Bill Algeo who has not exactly taken the division by storm himself. Fili is the more experienced fighter and the better, more technical striker. He has gone up against fighters with grappling-heavy styles such as Brito and his skills on the ground are enough to handle what the Brazilian throws at him.
Andre Fili’s height and reach advantage should see him control the fight at a distance and tee off Brito at range. His leg kicks will aim to take away Brito’s willingness to shoot a takedown and turn it into a grappling match. Joanderson Brito’s style which is similar to Bryce Mitchel’s could make this a hard fight for Fili. But Brito’s grappling is nowhere near as good as Mitchel’s, against whom Fili had a good scrap on the ground before losing only by unanimous decision. Our experts predict a dominant win for “Touchy” Fili on the night.
Records: Andre Fili 15-4-0 | Joanderson Brito 17-6-0 Main Card – Flyweight (125lbs) – Approx. Start Time: 11:30 a.m. ET
Expert Pick #3 – Levy to win @-227
Two fighters coming off the back of a loss in their UFC debuts face off on the preliminary card of this weekend’s event when Mike “Money” Breeden and Natan Levy meet for a featherweight bout. Although they both lost their first fights in the UFC, Levy’s performance where he lost by unanimous decision to Rafa Garcia showed promise for better performances moving forward, as opposed to Breeden’s where he was brutally knocked out in the first round against Alexander Hernandez.
Natan Levy has solid enough striking to use his slight reach advantage should the fight stay on the feet. And he has impressive enough skill on the ground should he decide to take the fight there. Breeden has struggled to make the step up in level of competition in his career and his status as a fighter on the UFC roster may soon come to an end. While the quality of Levy’s technique in striking and grappling will come good for him in this fight as he tries to gain a foothold in the promotion. Our experts predict a win for Natan Levy on the night.
Records: Mike Breeden 12-4-1 |Natan Levy 12-5-2 Preliminary Card – Featherweight (145lbs) – Approx. Start Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
